In this lock down situation people are working from home, remote working is becoming new norm. Companies are asking employees to work from home and avoid social contact as much as possible.
Even PM Modi has urged people to stay indoors, some of the highlights from his speech.
“I request you that for the coming weeks, people should go out only if it is essential
But my question is, are you ready to follow this work from home culture? Have you wired your mind to work like that? Or if you are doing it already what are your pain points?
I am trying to work from home from quite a time now, I start my day with great enthusiasm but then I really need to keep the energy flowing.
But my point is how to crack this code.

I have been asking people and knowing their viewpoints on being efficient on working from home and the answers I got were amazing.No doubt its a challenge but little bit of self-discipline can make things work.

1) First and foremost have a proper working area

Any room in your house which has a minimum of distractions. The corner should have your books, some posters and good lighting.It should be your zone.If possible not in your bedroom .Keep a diary,good pen on your desk as the day starts.Clean your desk and put a bottle of water every morning.

2) Follow your morning routine

Follow your schedule as you do when going to the office. Get up early in the morning, do your chores take breakfast (as you like). And then sit. Just time your self. Say at 9 o’clock.Yes doing break fast will give you all the luxury to have a good spread and healthy break fast.

3) Make a schedule of your work.

Writing every small detail in a diary. The schedule should be day wise, week wise and month wise. Use a nice pen, yes don’t underestimate the power of a fountain pen.

Complete the most important task first.It will give you immense satisfaction of moving ahead rapidly.

Although there are many tools available for the same .I will write a separate blog for it.

 

4) As you start completing your tasks just strike it off.

It really helps, gives you self confidence in completing the tasks and keeps you motivated.

Keep your mobiles away so that you are just working and in a spree to complete it.

5) Working from home means flexibility

Working hours necessarily doesn’t mean 9 to 5. It does mean any time block which can work for you or if you are an owl you can schedule yourself to work in the night time.

I know a person who works from 2 am in the morning to 8 am and then sleeps in the morning and starts again.Great zeal.

6) Efficiency is very important

Take breaks after 2 hours. Drink water(keep it at your desk,so that you dont have to get up ,as it breaks the rhythm). Children are the best stress busters. Play with them, talk to them and then come back to work.You can take some healthy snacks in between like sprouts etc .But this need to be prepared right in the morning so that you don’t waste your time while working.

7) Switch off the notifications.

Not all roles  can come under this umbrella but for most of them which can be-

  • Work from home is a great concept if implemented correctly with self-discipline and can save us a lot of time, money, energy and save our resources, for other important tasks in a day.
  • Yes, you will miss out the gossiping session with your friends in office but then you can always catch up them with them over a cup of coffee 🙂
  • Work will mean only work and play will mean only play.
  • There is a huge pool of women resources who are highly qualified but could not continue going to the normal office after marriage or children, due to various reasons. They can be brought back to the work force. Their expertise and knowledge can be used wisely.
  • While working from home we tend to work more,yes its true .Try to cut yourself off, after you have  completed your work for the day.
